ISABELLE CHIRLS

(they/them) is a producer and director of new work based in New York City.

Balancing logistics with creativity, Isabelle collaborates on projects in all phases of development and champions new plays from page to stage. With a particular interest in amplifying queer stories, writers, and forms, their process prioritizes text, dramaturgy, and care for collaborators and audiences alike.

Selected producing credits include The 24 Hour Plays: Nationals (Classic Stage Company), POLARIS: a tragedy expansion pack (59E59), WRITE CLUB Playfest (Target Margin), and are you listening? (The Makers’ Space). Isabelle is also the Creative Producer for WRITE CLUB, a collective that supports early-career writers in new work development, as well as a script reader for Playwrights’ Center and SheNYC Arts.

Selected associate directing credits include Practical Magic (dir. Maria Friedman, Broadway development), Slanted Floors (dir. Ryan Dobrin, a Greenpoint apartment), and you don’t have to do anything (dir. Ryan Dobrin, HERE Arts).

Isabelle graduated from Wesleyan University with a BA in Theatre and English with a concentration in Creative Writing. They were awarded the Outreach & Community Service Prize in Theatre and earned High Honors for their thesis “Make the Roof Cave In: Writing Queer Experience on the Page and the Stage.” They have also trained with Intimacy Directors & Coordinators (IDC).
